The Scholar’s Summer Day Camp is 12 weeks of fun! We will learn about a new theme each week through guest speakers, field trips, projects, and personal journals. Every week, we will go to the pool, have a project presentation, and spend time volunteering.
Transport-ology
June 3-7
This week will focus on transportation. We will be utilizing the CyRide throughout the summer. We will learn about safe bus riding, meet with professionals in the industry and learn about all modes of transportation.
Our Only Natural World
June 10-14
Want to save the world? Explore the outdoors and learn about conservation efforts in Iowa. Participate in #Trashtag and work to clean local parks. Learn about the small efforts that make a huge difference.
Health through Fitness and Food
June 17-21
Discover new ways to keep your body healthy with a week of exercise and nutrition. We’ll explore healthy habits that make your life better. Learn best eating practices from a dietitian and make today feel better.
Art in Iowa and Beyond
June 24-28
Are you the next Grant Wood? Grow your artistic skills and learn diverse art styles while exploring the massive Art Collections in Iowa. Whether you enjoy painting, sculpting or even animating, you will learn new skills.
Our City, Ames
July 1-3, 5
We will explore Ames and all the city offers. Meet the Ames City Mayor and learn about what goes into running a city with a world renown University. See Ames through the lens of history in the Farewell T. Brown Photo exhibit.
Technology for the Rest of our Lives
July 8-12
Dive into technology with a week of 21st century fun. Learn about LEED Certified Buildings and their impact. Explore modern climate conscious agriculture and how eco-farming makes a difference.
Animals-Big and Small
July 15-19
Visit farm animals, zoo animals, and everything in between. Meet wounded wildlife and learn about the rehabilitation process. See into a cow’s stomach, feed goats and learn about animal care.
What is Science?
July 22-26
We will not only see science in action, we will be scientists. Discover the Scientific Method. Learn how to follow an idea to its conclusion and determine what is fact and what is not.
Government in Action
July 29- August 2
Visit the capitol, police and fire stations, and develop knowledge about the government in a new way. Learn how laws are made and experience Iowa Civics in a hands-on manner.
Life Skills for Today and Tomorrow
August 5-9
Gain expertise in sewing, cooking, banking and other life skills that will last forever. Explore communication, empathy, and problem solving through role playing. It’s never too early to be prepared for tomorrow.
Local Tourists
August 12-16
Wrap up the summer by being tourists of Central Iowa. See our home state as maybe you never have; visit a creamery, go behind the scenes at Jack Trice and explore your competitive side with fun at Perfect Games!
Summer Celebration
August 19-22
Celebrate the summer and all that we learned and the fun we had. We will discuss how our lives were impacted in learning about our community and make a final project about our favorite part of the summer.
